Grumpy bastard who didnt get up on time and had to run straight out the door, felt pretty shitty no wife, no energy, no scruples, no brain at some points. I luve you, im sorry, please forgive me, thank you. It's been in my head all day along with a million other things, work, work and more work. Okay thats enough, move on.........
Im a sucker for feeling better when i get things done and yet sometimes the things you have to do dont feel like the things you want or need! to, weird shit. I realise i felt like a fukin hobo again and as ive been slipping in to old habbits, the old lines of thought and action open up, yep its that savage circle stuff that pisses me off. Its good that Gertie is gettin stuck in and actually doin stuff to move us on, cos it some times feels like I dont have the heart for it, and thats not the case but i know thats how it feels and looks probably. Theres a definate need to step up and i'm all in dreads an all. But fuck ive felt it this weekend, sore skin and teeth, back and head, ...there it goes again.
Trying to be possitive constantly, especially recently as felt a bit too much! I think particularly when people die its a real time for contemplation and if you give yourself a chance to feel it your heart will tell you just fuckin get on with it what ever you want to do, dont waste any time doin anything you dont want to, including the stuff you believe that has to be done. Shit, thank the lord for ten mins of free thought and some Dub Reggae at the moment its LOve Grocer - Sunset point, its got that pheramone that makes you feel good or stoned or both but it gives you time to shut out the mind chatter and concentrate on what comes naturally, from the unconcious, which for me means that i'm getting on with what i want to and not the million things that conditioning tells us we have to do.
Was there a point to this scrawl? I dont know, I think there was when it started out but I lost track somewhere along the few minutes it took to write, so hell we'll move on and maybe i'll come back to it later, but dont hold your breath!

Old Man Very Happy
I'm not sure why i left it this long, may have had something to do with an extremely dodgy Internet connection, but any way i eventually saw the video footage of Rollins fronting the Ruts at last years charity gig in London.
You may agree with me when i say that The Ruts were won of the best bands to come outta the late seventies punk thing, you may not. But when I heard that our Henry was goin to be fronting it was like "Take me back to ole Virginy" absolutely awesome. Now i knew Paul Fox was ill but it hadn't all stacked up in my mind.
When I saw the clip of Henry talking about them gettin' it together cos Paul wanted to play the set for one last time, tears poured from me like a watering can, uncontrollable, emotional bloody wreck.
The other reason I guess I hadn't looked was as I was still pissed off for havin' missed it in the first place, due the little move to NZ we undertook a month before! Unfortunately there was no way round it, so I had to make do with the rough old you tube footage. (Links at the bottom, Kleenex at the ready)
So there goes another of those bands that I always wanted to see, but never did because i was born just a little bit to late. I can vividly remember trying to peel off a huge poster advertising one of their gigs at The Stowaway in Newport and trying to drag it home without breaking it, but it never happened just like me never getting to see them, with or without Malcolm Owen.
Anywho, RIP Paul Fox and Malcolm Owen (of course), and thank you for makin' an old man very happy.
Never Surrender, Never Surrender.

Review - Michael Franti & Spearhead "All Rebel Rockers"
Okay, so being what you may call a spearist, I've been waiting for this new LP for a long time so the expectations were fairly high, even considering the fact I think that their albums seem to get worse as they go along. However, you can never write off such talented, inspirational and damn cool dudes as these.
So my thought process is (again) - Michael and co recording in Kingston with the fabulous Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, I immediately think WOW, you cant go wrong..... or can you?
The opening track starts well and gives an impression of 70's Roots Radicals, which is always good with me, but when the vocals come in I'm afraid it's back to mediocrity. Maybe i just want more angst to my Franti Lyrics or maybe its just that the smooth rich Baritone voice is the wrong selection for the Roots Rock Stylee. It maybe, even though it sounds good on paper, the two don't mix. Give me a franti fronted funk hip hop band anytime over this watered down reggae/funk/soul style.
Substance, substance, substance, now i know Michael is a man of great consciousness, great belief's and even greater focus, though the fact remains the spearhead sound is no longer doin' it for me, no matter how hard I try.
Got to go know and try and like this Lp if it kills me, Roll on the NZ tour, it may be that I need to renew my faith in Spearhead.

Another Radio Show!
Wild things are afoot in Auckland, not only did i get asked to do my own music show as previously blogged. Today I had a conversation with someone who I had emailed with a proposal for a radio show, as it goes they like it and want to meet me to get the ideas rolling, I guess that's trade talk for finding out if the idiot on the other end of the line is really capable of producing this show or to find out if he's a fuckwit.
At this moment, i guess that i would fall into the later category, so now i have to get my finger out my arse and get on with developing my ideas into some kind of solid structure or at least write down a few ideas, so that at least they consider letting me take the idea to the next stage.
WATCH THIS SPACE.

Radio Show Shinnanigans
The first radio show was a complete techn fiasco, straight in at the deep end with no off air training. And so it was with baited breath, dj howy p at the helm trying to operate between 6 channels with 2 dodgy cd machines an ipod and the computer and mike, crazy stuff. Started pretty well with my show opener Link Wray & the raymen - Rumble, then me talking over the intro of Beck Gamma ray from the new lp blah blah, but the relief was so great that i let the beck lp run straight into the next track and then was all over the shop. Managed to get back together for an hour or so when i was playing zonderhoof givin myself time to think when i was having trouble cuing the next tune in Freda Payne's band of gold and started paniking because i couldnt hear anything in the cans, then just as i was trying to fade in a non existant song the bloody phone started ringing well that was enough to send me over the top. On the phone was the dj that follows me on and he couldnt get in! so when i put the next tune on i went to let him in and he was practically in tears saying bloody hell i havent heard freda payne since about 1971 when i used to go dancing in Huddersfield! And then went on to dothe dj thing and go on and tell the listners (all 8 - just joking) about it and didnt stop going on about it, very funny. When i tuned in the following eve on my way home there were these young hip hop dudes still going on about it, but not with the same view, in fact they were saying how bad it was, but hell any reaction got to be good one in my book! And what was quite funny was they then went on to rap over some moss def tune, which was actually on my playlist even though it didnt get to air because of techno difficulties. In theory its all quite easy but when you open a mike and you forget everything and anything you cant even remember how to talk it's going to be a steep learning curve.
